새벽 닭
어렸을 적 시골의 외할머니는 닭을 키우셨는데요,
책에서 본 것처럼 진짜 날이 밝기도 전에 꼬끼오~하고 우렁차게 우는 닭이 넘나 신기했어요.
(때로는 그 닭이 사위를 위한 백숙이 되기도 했지만요..ㅜ)
어린시절이어서 그런지 닭이 생각보다 매섭고, 크고, 힘도 세었던 기억이 나네요.
이 그림은 제가 신라의 신화와 보물을 소재로 그렸던 그림 중의 일부이기도 한데요,
그림을 그리면서 자료 조사를 하다가 문득 국사시간에 배웠던 내용을 찾았어요.
흰 닭이 숲 속에서 울고 있었는데, 그 위에는 금빛으로 된 궤짝이 나뭇가지에 달려 있어 왕에게 가지고 갔대요.
그 궤짝을 열어보니 똑똑하게 생긴 어린 사내아이가 들어 있어,
금으로 된 궤짝에서 나왔으니 성은 김 씨로하고, 알지라는 이름을 지어 귀하게 길렀다고 하네요.
그리고 이 김알지의 후손이 오랫동안 신라를 통치했지요.
그 때에는 닭을 세상의 빛을 알리는 상서로운 동물로 여겼다고 하더라구요.
우리도 닭을 '치느님'이라고 부르며 많이 애정하지만 시선이 사뭇다르죠.
같은 동물을 바라보는 다른 시선 , 그 옛날의 이야기를 상상하며 하나하나 그린 닭의 모습입니다.

If you order now, the manufacturing process begins on 12/24, and the goods are to be shipped out before 1/2.
