Dokkaebi is a Korean guardian deity with horns, a scary face, bulging eyes, and a large mouth with sharp teeth. It is the deity of wealth, good fortune, and abundance that prevents disasters, disasters and epidemics and brings wealth and food to the poor. As a two-faced being, it refers to the guardian of justice who punishes the evil and rewards the good.
In the old days, people thought that chasing out bad spirits could only be done by evil spirits. The reason for using gwimyeon on the roof tiles is to drive out bad spirits and block bad luck.
To humans, fire is an extremely convenient and valuable existence, but it was also a subject of fear for the ancients. Dokkaebi Roof Tiles(鬼面瓦) was used for the exterior of the building as a way to make it stand out with the desire to prevent the fearful and terrifying fire, disaster, and epidemic from approaching the building.
도깨비(Dokkaebi)는 뿔과 무서운 얼굴, 불룩한 두 눈, 날카로운 이빨의 큰입을 가진 한국의 수호신이다. 재해, 재난과 전염병을 막고 가난한 백성들에게 재물과 먹을 것을 가져다 주는 재물, 행운, 풍요의 복신(福神)이다. 양면성을 지닌 존재로서, 악한 사람에게 벌을 주고 선한 사람에게 상을 내리는 정의의 수호자를 뜻한다.
옛날 사람들은 나쁜 귀신을 쫓는 것은 영악한 귀신이라야 할 수 있다고 생각하였고 옛건축물 사래 끝에 귀면와를 만들어 장식하여 붙였다. 이처럼 기와에 귀면을 사용한 이유는 바로 나쁜 귀신을 쫓아내고 액운을 차단하기 위해서다.
인간에게 불은 더할 나위 없이 편리하고 소중한 존재이지만, 고대인들에겐 두려움의 대상이기도 했다. 두렵고 무서운 화마(火魔)와 재난, 전염병이 건물에 접근하는 것을 막고자하는 염원을 담아 돋보이게하는 방법으로 귀면와(鬼面瓦)를 건축물의 외관에 사용하였다.
トッケビ（Dokkaebi）は角と怖い顔、ふくらんでいる二つの目、鋭い歯の大きな口を持つ韓国の守護神だ。災害、災難と伝染病を防ぎ、貧しい人々に富と食べ物をもたらす贈り物、幸運、豊かさの福神である。両面性を持つ存在として、邪悪な人に罰を与え、善い人に賞を与える定義の守護者を意味する。
昔の人々は悪い幽霊を追うのは霊悪な幽霊でなければならないかもしれないと考えていましたが、これが昔の建築物の死の終わりに鬼面を瓦にして飾って貼り付けました。このように瓦に鬼面を使った理由は、まさに悪い幽霊を追い出して厄介を遠ざけるためだ。
人間にとって火はとても便利で貴重な存在だが、古代人には恐怖の対象でもあった。怖くて恐ろしい火魔と災難、伝染病が建物に接近するのを防ごうとする念願を込めて引き立てる方法として鬼面瓦を建築物の外観に使用した。
