낯선 타지에서 나 스스로 안전을 지켜야만 하는 외국 생활에서 ‘Home(집)’에 대한 정의를 다시 생각하게 되었다. 흔히들 얘기하는 “집에 있어도 집에 가고 싶다.” 라는 말이 와 닿았고 이방인으로써 때로는 이들과 섞여 숨어 지내고 싶다가도 나의 존재를 드러내고 싶어지는 순간이 교차되었다. 그러한 생각들을 거쳐 안전에 대한 나의 강박은 더욱 커졌다. 그러다 문득 진정한 "집"이란 어떤 것일까? 라는 생각이 스쳤다. 그곳이 어디이던 내가 편히 누워있는 그 곳이 내 "집"이 아닐까? 라는 결론에 도달했다. 꼭 돈을 지불해서 물질적으로 공간을 사야 내 집이 생기는 것이 아니다. 하지만 현실에서 쉽게 말해 공짜 집이란 없다. 다시 말해 어디도 내 안전을 지킬 곳은 없다는 의미도 된다. 생각의 꼬리를 물어 우리는 죽어야만 내 자리 하나를 갖게 된다는 아이러니한 상황을 마주한다. 죽은 사람들이 누운 곳에 그 사람의 체형에 맞게 아웃라인을 그리게 되는데 다시 생각해보면 그 순간 만큼 우리는 "공짜 집"을 얻게 되는 것이다. 이러한 이중성을 말하고자 했고 너무 무겁게 풀고 싶지 않아 “블랙유머”와 같은 "rent free" 시리즈를 작업하게 되었다.

If you order now, the manufacturing process begins on 1/14, and the goods are to be shipped out before 1/21.
